Time loop puzzle (Ghosts of Our Past)

Stuck in the We Were Here Tomorrow time loop? In Chapter 5’s Temporal Research Centre the recurrence is intentional (Ghosts of Our Past / Eternal Recurrence) — progress comes from coordinating what changes between loops, not from force-quitting on the first repeat.

Where this is

Chapter 5 · Temporal Research Centre. Community names include Time Loop Puzzle, Ghosts of Our Past, and Eternal Recurrence. Looping is intentional; there is even an achievement angle for engaging the loop.

What kind of puzzle

A designed recurrence: the “bug” is the mechanic. Progress comes from noticing what changes between loops and coordinating who carries which information forward — not from force-quitting on the first repeat.

Hint

On the first loop, only observe. Each later loop, change one planned action. Tell your partner what is different in your room compared to last time. If nothing changes after several loops, you are missing a trigger object or conversation beat — backtrack the rooms you unlocked since entering the TRC.

Solution (spoiler — community method)

What community guides describe (Ghosts of Our Past / clock tower): Each cycle lasts about 60 seconds and records your actions. The last two cycles replay as phantoms (up to two ghost-bodies per player). Four time crystals must break in the same cycle; a phantom press counts. A two-player reset chain in the tower clears bad recordings.

  1. Open wings first: Clear the six-plate door (plates A–F stay held only while occupied — use phantoms and/or goop so someone is free to walk through). Press crystal A to open the Norček wing; press crystal B there to open the Ruins wing (C and D) and save progress. These presses need not be the same cycle.
  2. Plan the finale backwards: In one final cycle, all four crystals must break together. Record presses you cannot reach live in the prior 1–2 cycles so phantoms repeat them on the timer; press the remaining buttons yourselves.
  3. Six-plate door in the final cycle: Hold plates with phantoms + goop, not both living players standing on plates (nobody left to walk through).
  4. Agree the whole cycle plan before leaving the start bubble. Softlocks / vanished interactions: checkpoint reload.

Community sources give the rules and wing order; they deliberately do not publish one universal footpath through every wing — plan with your partner from the rules above.

Frequently asked questions

Is the We Were Here Tomorrow time loop a bug?

No. Looping is the mechanic. Community names include Time Loop Puzzle, Ghosts of Our Past, and Eternal Recurrence; there is even an achievement angle for engaging the loop.

How do we progress through the time loop?

Treat early cycles as recordings for phantoms. Open wings via crystals A then B, hold the six-plate door with ghosts/goop, then break all four crystals in one final ~60s cycle. See the Solution spoiler for the community rule set.

When should we reload a checkpoint instead?

If nothing changes after several loops and you have already finished nearby greenhouse / generator beats, you may be missing a trigger — or softlocked. Then use checkpoint reload.
